Tarnished Brass & Spanish Moss: A Victorian-Inspired Wedding Shoot in New Orleans

Captured by Chicago-based photographer Justine Bursoni, today’s enigmatically beautiful wedding shoot resurrects the moody mystique of old New Orleans and its fabled French Quarter. Set at the sumptuous Beauregard-Keyes House, a historic residence that has been transformed into a museum with a focus on its past inhabitants (most notably its namesake denizens, General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard and American author Frances Parkinson Keyes), the shoot drew inspiration from the character of the dwelling, whose original design combined elements of a Creole cottage with Greek Revival features, and its Victorian-era furnishings.
“We were inspired by the rich, velvety reds of the upholstery: crimson, burgundy, and oxblood,” Justine says. Floral designer Kim Starr Wise created an array of inky floral arrangements featuring scarlet-colored spray roses, bearded irises, pepper berries, love-lies-bleeding, and the region’s ubiquitous Spanish moss, stirring up the Crescent City’s dark romance. Tarnished brass and silver gave a nod to the gas lamps that line Chartres Street.
