Signature Cocktail #31: Maple Cider Cherry Whiskey

Handcrafted by the batch at a small cidery in Vermont, Woodchuck Spring Cider is just about the crispest, most refreshing drink out there. Carlene Thomas, our wedding wellness expert, paired it with the decadent sweetness of cherries and the smokiness of whiskey for a deliciously complex seasonal sip.
Special-release seasonal beverages are hit or miss. Pumpkin-based drinks fare exceptionally well in the market, while heavier winter blends can sometimes fall short. In this case, a spring hard cider absolutely exceeds expectations. With notes of maple and light carbonation, Woodchuck Spring Cider pairs perfectly with a fresh cherry syrup and a shot of whiskey.

Ingredients for cocktail (serves 1)
♦ 1 1/2 ounces of whiskey
♦ 2 tablespoons of homemade cherry syrup with some whole cherries added in (recipe below)
♦ 1/3 cup of Woodchuck Spring Cider
ingredients To make 1 batch of cherry syrup
♦ 8 ounces of cherries (frozen or fresh, pitted and with stems removed)
♦ 1/3 cup of sugar
♦ 1 tablespoon of water
Directions for syrup
Add sauce ingredients to a pot on the stove. Stir. Cover with a lid and cook on medium, occasionally lifting the lid to stir. After several minutes, the cherries should soften, and it should be easy to lightly mash them. Allow to cook for another five minutes and cool.
Directions for cocktail
Add ice and whiskey to a small glass. Spoon in cherries and syrup and top with Woodchuck Spring Cider. Stir gently and enjoy!
