Rose Gold & Mint: A Romantically Glamorous Shoot at North Carolina’s Separk Mansion

A vintage-inspired color combination—rose gold and mint—served as the starting point for this romantic shoot at Gastonia, North Carolina’s Separk Mansion, a glamorous Gatsby-era venue defined by its impressive Italian Renaissance Revival architecture and impeccably kept formal garden.
“We chose rose gold because it’s beautiful but, until recently, rarely used,” says photographer Casey Hendrickson. The gold-copper blend, popularized by Cartier in the 1920s, is seeing a resurgence in popularity, both as a color and a metal. Here, the decadent blush hue was paired with mint green to “create a soft palette that still packed a punch and evoked a joyful mood.”
To lend a feeling of authenticity to the shoot, the creative team decided to use a real-life engaged couple as models. Although the duo’s “first look” was a staged scene in a faux scenario, their emotions were as real as if it had been their actual wedding day.
“I had our groom stand at the bottom of the grand staircase and our bride walk down to him. She tapped him on the shoulder, he turned around, and it was instant tears for them both,” Casey says. “It was such a sweet moment, and I think it’s something that every couple can appreciate.”
