Mood Board #97: Fog
By Lauren Kathryn on Jan 26, 2013 at 6:26 am in Rustic and Simple/Minimalist
Today’s board is a little ode to my “cool, grey city.” Being a San Franciscan, I have a love-hate relationship with the fog, which writer Julian Guthrie so aptly described as “one of the ethereal pillars of the city’s myth and beauty.” Given how romantic and beguiling it is—I don’t think a single poet who’s dwelled in or passed through Fog City has been left unaffected by this sea breeze phenomenon—the love part usually prevails, although I do take to Twitter every now and then to bash the fog for spoiling one outdoor event or another. One of my greatest little delights last year was discovering that San Francisco’s fog has a Twitter account. The fog is apparently a witty male entity, and he goes by the name of Karl. You can praise him, slam him, or follow his whereabouts here.
I’ll admit that a fog-themed wedding is a bit of a stretch (unless, of course, you’re getting hitched in San Fran in the summertime), but you can hint at the beauty of the fog’s wispy whiteness with elements like delicate flowers arranged minimalistically in clouded bottles, raw ice quartz jewelry, and misty cocktails. Gin fizzes, such as the apple gin fizz featured in this board; the Dark ’n’ Stormy, a crowd-pleasing classic; and sophisticated dry ice concoctions (see La Llorona and Molly’s Martini) all come to mind.
