Mood Board #89: Chocolat
By Lauren Kathryn on Jan 8, 2013 at 1:02 pm in
Today’s board was inspired by Joanne Harris’ 1999 novel, Chocolat. We tried to capture the mood of magic, mystery, and decadent indulgence that surrounds Vianne’s life-changing little chocolaterie in the fictional French village of Lansquenet-sous-Tannes. A highly romantic food and generally a universal crowd pleaser, chocolate is a deliciously easy thing to weave into a wedding’s edible elements, from the cake to the cocktails. Some sweet options we love include this handmade chocolate menu (available in milk, dark, or white chocolate) from Edward Marc and these petit fours, which are monogrammed with a chocolate “wax” seal. Even if chocolate isn’t your elixir of choice, you can still be inspired by its velvety brown hues, which are vastly underused in the world of weddings. We think chocolate browns look especially rich and inviting when paired with gold and French beige—a buttery, nuanced color—as shown here. In the movie adaptation of the novel, Vianne’s confectionery has been given a Mayan twist, so another color palette we imagined is one that combines chocolate shades with spicy, burnt oranges and chili-pepper reds balanced by soft cream shades.
