Mood Board #73: Winter Kumquat
By Lauren Kathryn on Nov 18, 2012 at 3:11 pm in Vintage
Tinier, tarter, and zingier than their citrus cousins, kumquats are little winter gems, and we love seeing these fun sweet-and-sour fruits pop up in weddings. The brilliant orange color of these olive-sized orbs really packs a punch, and they are excitingly versatile. In addition to having myriad culinary uses, they have endless décor possibilities. We’ve seen them incorporated into floral arrangements, used as cake accents, and added to boutonnieres. Sugar-frosted kumquats, such as these beauties created by Yummy Mummy Kitchen, would make for festive edible place cards. For satisfying sweet and savory favors, try this recipe for spiced kumquat marmalade, sure to take the edge off winter’s chill. And for a no-fail wintertime pick-me-up, consider making this effervescent spritzer that features freshly muddled kumquats and a simple syrup infused with pink peppercorns, which add an element of warmth. Spike it, and you’ve got a splendid signature cocktail!
