Hannah & Chris: A Vintage Urban Wedding in Chicago

Chicagoans Chris and Hannah Sorcic shared their first date at a neighborhood wine bar one snowy January evening. When Chris walked Hannah all the way home that night in the bitter cold despite the fact that he lived in the complete opposite direction, she knew he was a keeper. A few years later, he popped the question on an Indian summer afternoon with a bottle of Hannah’s favorite champagne and a dazzling custom engagement ring.
Though the two sought an urban space for their September wedding, they wanted the event to feel warm, personal, handcrafted, and informal. Prairie Production, a photography studio in the West Loop that doubles as an event venue, offered a perfect blank canvas. “The inside of the studio is painted all white and has an industrial vibe,” Hannah said. “The space really lends itself to being transformed into whatever you want it to be, so we opted for homespun details and soft, romantic touches—flowers for days, farm tables, mixed vintage place settings, and a fabulous antique baker’s table that served different purposes throughout the day. The juxtaposition between the stark, modern setting and the lush, shabby-chic details resulted in a uniquely charming mood.”
Photographed beautifully by Amanda Hein, every last bit of loveliness came together seamlessly with the help of the talented team behind boutique planning studio Liven It Up Events.
Hannah wowed in a lace gown from Spanish designer Rosa Clara.
An antique baker’s table overflowing with an assortment of colorful flowers and greenery served as the ceremony backdrop. Kelly Marie Uss of floral design studio Fleur, which specializes in exotic varieties and contemporary styles, was the mastermind behind the lushly cheerful floral arrangements.
Made by Kendra Dolson of Little Blue Bird, the wedding programs were hand-typed on a vintage typewriter, complete with sticking keys.
Chris and the wedding party entered to Iron & Wine’s rendition of “Such Great Heights,” and Hannah walked down the aisle to Cat Power’s cover of “Sea of Love.” For the recessional, the couple chose Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”
“Those songs, and a few others, will always jog such happy memories,” Hannah said.
“The flowers were absolutely breathtaking,” Hannah said. “For the tabletops, Fleur used a variety of vintage plates, cloches, stacks of old books, and lots and lots of votive candles. Every table looked special and unique.”
“Chris and I are known to be food-obsessed,” Hannah said. “We’re also committed to sourcing locally as much as possible. Entertaining Company did a wonderful job using local, seasonal ingredients and incorporating little homages to Chicago, such as mini Chicago-style hotdogs as late-night bites.”
Hannah’s advice to other brides? “Assemble a great team that understands your vision and is just as excited about it as you are. And trust your gut. Within minutes of my first meeting with Kelly Marie of Fleur, I was absolutely sure that I wanted to work with her. I felt the very same way about our amazing wedding planner, Anthony Navarro. With Kelly Marie and Anthony at the wheel, I was able to rest easy.”
