Faded Fancy: A Baroque-Inspired Bridal Shoot at a Crumbling London Chapel

Florid grandeur meets dilapidated beauty in this Baroque-inspired bridal shoot, held at the timeworn Caroline Gardens Chapel in Peckham, London. Built in the early 1800s as a worship space for dwellers of the surrounding almshouses, the building is now used for art projects, exhibitions, and private events (including weddings) through the artist-led organization Asylum.
“With its crumbling interior walls and intricate stained-glass windows, the chapel offers a real theatrical feel,” says Erica Willoughby, the editor of U.K.-based wedding directory and blog Mr. & Mrs. Unique, which harnessed the creativity of its boundary-pushing vendors to put together the shoot.
“We decided that a Baroque theme would suit the venue, but I was keen on softening the Baroque vibe by bringing in paler colors, such as dusty pink and muted gold, to create more of a bridal feel,” Erica says.
The pinkwashed look lends an Antoinette-esque atmosphere to the seductive mix of opulence and ruin.
