Equestrian Elegance: A Romantic Autumnal Shoot Along Louisiana’s River Road

A creative collaboration between photographer Alicia Parrino, designer Valerie Gernhauser of Sapphire Events, pastry artist Melissa Samuels, and several other top wedding professionals from the New Orleans area, today’s featured shoot pays homage to equestrian elegance in a sunwashed autumnal palette flecked with the remnantal shades of summer. The splendor unfolded along the fabled River Road corridor in St. Rose, Louisiana, on the lush green grounds of LaBranche Plantation, a site known for its colorful historical tidbits, such as being home to Zachery Taylor’s bathub and the largest pecan tree in the entire state.
“I grew up on River Road, helping out at the stables there and learning to ride and jump horses,” Alicia says, “so I had always envisioned a horse being part of this shoot.”
In a stroke of serendipity, the model, Kerry Gridley, turned out to be an experienced English rider, and she brought along her chestnut-colored Arabian mare, Fleur, who formed the focal point of the scene. Around the two, every detail fell gracefully into place.
A trio of antique rings were among a selection of sifted-through treasures purchased at The Estate Center, a local auction house.
BHLDN’s ‘Sian’ gown, an exquisitely embroidered silk dress showered in delicate three-dimensional flowers, was paired with its ‘Harriett’ wreath, a winding vine halo featuring enamel-painted petals and Swarovski crystal dewdrops, for a beautifully feminine look. A light fingertip veil added an additional layer of loveliness.
A pebbled metallic envelope liner lent visual interest to a simple and classic wedding invitation.
Floral designer Kim Starr Wise created a richly textured autumnal centerpiece using red sunflowers, hydrangeas, berries, ‘Blushing Bride’ proteas, and assorted foliage.
Made by Melissa’s Fine Pastries, this berried ladyfinger cake beautifully complemented the setting with its elegantly rustic look.
The bride’s hair was unpinned and adorned with a crown of ‘Blushing Bride’ proteas for a softer, less formal reception look.
