Countryside Chic: A Modernly Rustic Wedding Shoot at Oklahoma’s Cedar Henge Barn

When Oklahoma-based photographer Lydia Royce stumbled upon images of the newly built Cedar Henge Barn while scrolling through her Facebook feed, she knew she had to shoot there one day. “Barn weddings are big in the Sooner State, but most barn venues here have dark wooden walls, and photographing them can be tricky without using tons of flash or winding up with orange color casts,” Lydia says. “I loved the clean look of this barn’s white-painted walls.”
To play up the bright, fresh look of Cedar Henge Barn, which is located in southeast Oklahoma atop Massey Pointe on Lake Eufaula, Lydia and her creative team eschewed tired and traditional rustic details (think burlap and baby’s breath) in favor of sharper, more modern ones (think black-and-white marbled stationery, faceted copper vases, and geometric terrariums). The eventscape they produced reflected a rejuvenated blend of urban and rural influences.
Lydia had both winter and spring in mind when she selected the color palette: white, russet, sage, dusty blue, and bits of blush for a pop of sweetness. Magnolia leaves added a smattering of Southern charm.
