Botanical Harmony: A Vintage-Meets-Modern Garden-Inspired Shoot in Toronto

Refined yet inventive elements and a softly striking color palette that looks like it sprung from a botanist’s daydream define this garden-inspired shoot, whose goal was to reflect a real-life Toronto couple’s personal history and love for the city through the details of their wedding celebration.
The overall aesthetic honored the bride’s late grandmother, an avid gardener and beekeeper. Honeycomb-like patterns turned up in many a detail, from the octagonal place cards to the centerpieces, which consisted of geometric forms overflowing with flowers and foliage. The secret, hidden greenscapes of the city were echoed in the standards, designed by Laura Olsen Events and Sweet Woodruff. Burnt coral and earthy greens bespoke the botanical motif.
Since the couple loves a good cocktail and can often be found enjoying a night out at one of Toronto’s fine watering holes, a mixologist was a must. The pair’s favorite bartender was on hand to serve up a Chartreuse concoction that tastily tied into the theme.
“Collaborating with Toronto’s top artists, designers, creators, and makers of weddings was essential in our effort to showcase the local talent available for today’s Toronto couples,” says photographer Rebecca Wood, who conceived of the shoot and captured it masterfully. “Storied pieces were paired with modern ones to bring the past and the present together in a timeless conversation.”
