For Jamie Sharpe, the drummer of Christian rock band Rush of Fools, and Alexandria Crews, a schoolteacher, finding one another was bittersweet. At the same time that the two were falling in love, Jamie’s mother was courageously battling late-stage breast cancer. Sadly, she lost her fight with the disease in July 2013.
“No one likes to say that Jamie’s mother, with whom he had such a close bond, stopped fighting,” Alexandria said. “They like to say that she let go. She wasn’t afraid of death, for she loved the Lord. Her biggest fear was leaving her son alone in this world. After many long talks and days with me, I think she was comforted by the realization that I could help to fill the void left behind in Jamie’s heart when she passed.”
A month later, Jamie surprised Alexandria in her classroom with a marriage proposal. His mother must have been smiling somewhere high above, as her long-held wishes for her son had come true.
“My mom always told me to find someone who makes me happy and hold onto her,” Jamie told Alexandria while he was down on one knee. “And that person is you.”
The start of this special couple’s happily ever after began among turning leaves with this lakeside engagement session, captured beautifully by Penni Lauren Photography.

This is so sweet and beautiful. I know Mary is in Heaven looking at you both with so much love and approval. Her Spirit will ALWAYS be with the people that love her.
