Brooke & William: A Romantic Wedding in Salt Lake City

On the eve of Christmas Eve 2014, William Lewis brought Brooke Russon, his junior high sweetheart, to the summit of Ensign Peak, in the foothills of Salt Lake City, and asked her to be his “best friend forever.” At the top, Will had set out a candlelit paper sack and the biggest bouquet of roses that Brooke had ever seen. Nestled among the fragrant blooms was an envelope that read “Merry Christmas.” Brooke initially thought it all an early gift, but when she opened the envelope and pulled out a picture of her and William embracing in front of the Salt Lake Temple, where she had always dreamed of getting married, she realized with a swell of emotion just what was happening.
Five months later, the two tied the knot at that sacred structure. They hosted their “regal and romantic” reception at the Gateway’s Grand Hall, part of the restored Union Pacific Depot, originally built in 1908 and designed after French Renaissance architecture. The couple’s sumptuous color palette—rich rose red and gold accented with ink black and ivory—beautifully complemented the splendor of the space, with its gilded domed ceiling and historic oil murals.
The day’s moments and details were captured by photographer Pepper Nix. “She’s an absolutely amazing photographer,” Brooke gushes. “And she will have you rolling on the floor in laughter because she’s so funny and enjoyable to be around.”
